DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Officers called to a neighborhood in Davidson found a person dead inside of a car. They're calling this a homicide investigation.

It happened around 8:45 p.m. in the 400 block of Jetton Street.

The call originally came into MEDIC as a car accident, however Davidson police say one person died as as result of a gunshot.

Neighbors and family members tell NBC Charlotte a man in his 30s appears to have lost control after the shot was fired.

Police believe the victim, now identified as 36-year-old Jerry Wayne Kerns, of Cornelius, knew the suspect and this was not a random act of violence.

"We recognize that this situation is very upsetting to citizens in town but we know this is not a random act and want to assure them that they are safe," said Davidson Police Chief Jeanne Miller. "We are working hard to find the suspect(s) in this investigation and bring it to a successful resolution."

Wednesday afternoon, Davidson Police said the suspect is a black male and is driving a red Chevy Caliber, hybrid SUV.

Armed Robbery of Jimmy John's restaurant

 

    On 12/30/2014 at around 9:45 p.m. three unknown black males entered the front door of the business wearing all black and camouflage clothing. One suspect was armed with an automatic handgun and demanded money from the cash registers. The suspect instructed the employee to place the money in a Jimmy John's paper bag which is shown below. The suspects then fled the business out the back door. Two of the suspects are described as being 6'0" - 6'2" and the third is described as being 5'9" - 6'0" wearing white and orange Nike Air Max 95 sneakers.
